Xkcd dating range

Graph of the Half-age-plus-seven rule ("never date anyone under half your age plus 7"), which claims to dictate what age disparity between two people is acceptable in dating/romantic/intimate relationships during the late 20th century / early 21st century (called the "Standard creepiness rule" in the xkcd webcomic).

According to this rule, the age of the younger person should not be less than half the age of the older person plus seven years, so that (for example) no one older than 65 should be in a relationship with anyone younger than 39 and a half, no one older than 22 should be in a relationship with anyone younger than 18, and no one under 14 years of age should be in a relationship at all...

If someone 110 wants to continue doing coke every day, I'm not going to stop it. So the fact that the range gets pretty large starting somewhere around is based on people past their mid-30s having enough life under their belt to make good decisions for themselves.

People who've reached 110 can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want, provided they aren't breaking any laws outside of drug ones. As in, determining if the older party is acting in a potentially predatory manor based on the naivety of the younger. From another point of view, the chart can be interpreted as saying that there should not be an age disparity of as much as five years unless the younger person has an age of 19 or more, a ten-year disparity should exist only if the younger person has an age of 24 or more, and a twenty-year disparity should occur only if the younger person has an age of 34 or more.(And people only slightly older than 14 should only be involved with those almost exactly the same age as themselves.) To read the chart, go to the position along the x-axis which corresponds to your age, and the green range (between the black and red lines) directly above that position corresponds to the range of your partner's ages which is deemed acceptable by the rule.I'm just asking if creepiness is irrelevant to the age, as long as it's past the age of consent.EDIT: or, perhaps, does the age of consent (not legal) go up as the age of the partner goes up?

Sep 15, 2014. Randy Olson checks if men on OkCupid follow the Standard Creepiness Rule when it comes to dating. Is there an XKCD comic for that yet. It just so happens that Christian Rudder released his book Dataclysm last week, which features a chart showing us the age range that men search on OkCupid for.

Sep 10, 2007. Postby plunkettt Mon Sep 10, 2007 am. I appreciate the solid guideline given by the Standard Creepiness Rule. I was just wondering this week what my acceptable dating ranges were as I got older. Top.

The problem is that both the equation "y = x", which just maps age over time, and "y = x / 2 + 7", the dating-range formula, are each linear, an so at a certain point the lines grow unrealistically far apart, like where a 60 year old can date a 37 year old. When thinking about it, I figured what you'd want is some.
